ABOUT THE BENEFIT

My name is Griffin Gaffney (the coordinator of this event) I am a current high school senior at Lake Oswego High School and have been playing the viola for nine years now. For me viola is a passion and a way of life, but for so many others music is something all too foreign to modern life. In my studies I have come across many realizations, one of the biggest being the importance of music education in today's youth. For that reason I have been working the past few months on creating a fully subsidized music program that will start up at the Friendly House (a local community center in NW Portland) in November. As a recent alumni of the Portland Youth Philharmonic I found it to be quite fitting to have the talented musicians of the PYP become the teachers of the program. PYP musicians will be trained to teach kids of the Friendly House's "Friendly Chaps" program, who are all elementary school aged kids that go to Chapman elementary school. The classes will occur once or twice a week and will be taught in groups of 5.
This is event is the primary fund raiser for the Friendly House program. Help us make this dream a reality and let's start changing lives TODAY!!!
